WHAT’S TO STOP A 20-SOMETHING FROM TAKING OVER THE WORLD?

If you’re our Digital Director Brittany Norris, there is very little.  A few weeks back, this power-walking-power-house recently captured the office of Commissioner Seat 5 for Atlantic Beach, and we couldn't be prouder. We sat down with Britt to garner a little insight on what it was like to run her first political campaign, successfully, and to gauge her new political persona—and by ‘sit down’ we mean we caught her before her phone call with the Malaysian Prime Minister (she’s very busy now, okay?)

1. First line of your acceptance speech?
   I'd like to thank the Academy...

2. How is politics like advertising?
   They’re both about delivering an effective message and a call-to-action to a target market. 

3. This race in one word.
   Enlightening

4. What will be your first move? Longer recess? No more homework?
   Make yard signs and sign waving illegal.

5. Please fix beach parking situation.
   Um...this isn’t a question.

6. Hardest reality of running for a political office?
   The awkward tan lines.

7. Parks & Rec or House of Cards? Plot twist, is it Veep?
   Plot plot twist. It’s West Wing. But seriously, Parks & Rec. If my political career ever matches that of Francis Underwood’s, I’m calling Jimmy Larkin to put me out of my misery.

8. Favorite campaign slogan?
   Tippecanoe and Tyler Too. I’m serious.

9. What are you reading right now? The Art of War?
   “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” by Michelle Alexander.
    

To round it all out, here are our three best guesses as to what Britt will accomplish in the next 5 years–

• Streamlining communication between citizens and city officials

• Preservation of the marshlands, #dontdraintheswamps

• Begin the vetting process for her potential running mate, for her inevitable White House run in 2048.

And that, ladies and gents, is what you get when you’re young, bright and persistent.
